Come together to connect, share and celebrate stories from StoryCorps OutLoud, an initiative dedicated to documenting, preserving and amplifying stories from the LGBTQ+ community. Join AARP Connecticut and attendees from across the U.S. for a FREE virtual event on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 12:00pm – AARP membership not required.
This one-hour session will offer participants an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of issues faced by the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual) community today through stories of hope, resilience and love from around the country. In particular, you’ll hear from individuals about their experiences with health care and changes in health equity – and sometimes a lack of changes — from the early 1980’s to 2022. The stories provide an opportunity to connect and reflect at a time when we need it more than ever.
The program will begin with the experiences of the intergenerational moderating team, Carol Bozena, LCSW, and Sky Yeatts, MSW, both of whom are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. They will then welcome stories from others on themes of diversity, health equity, inclusivity and safety.
The session will also address creating safe spaces within your organizations, agencies and communities that can spur positive change for individuals in a way that is more supportive of their values and identity.
