A new initiative is underway that we want to share with you. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is required to remove Social Security Numbers from all Medicare cards by April 2019. A new, unique Medicare Number is replacing the SSN-based Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN) on each new Medicare card. This change is being made for security reasons and to help better protect beneficiaries from identity theft. From April 2018 to April 2019, people on Medicare will be receiving their new cards in the mail from the CMS.
The CMS is partnering with the State Unit on Aging, Department of Rehabilitation Services to educate the aging service network on the new Medicare Card rollout in Connecticut. They will be holding a webinar on Friday, June 22nd from 10:00 am to 11:30 am to discuss the new Medicare Cards. All are welcome to join this webinar. Please see below for the webinar’s schedule as well as the link to register. For more information, check out the Department of Rehabilitation Services’ website.
