During open enrollment, you can enroll or adjust your Medicare health or drug coverage in the following ways:
- Change from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan or vice versa
- Switch between Medicare Advantage Plans
- Join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan
- Switch your current drug plan
- Drop Medicare prescription drug coverage
How Do I Enroll?
Some people will need to enroll in Medicare and some people will get it automatically. When you apply for retirement or disability benefits from Social Security, it will automatically serve as application for Medicare. Your coverage will kick in when your retirement and disability benefits start. If you didn’t apply for retirement or disability benefits from Social Security, you will need to apply online during one of the enrollment periods.
To get started, visit Medicare’s official website to check when and how to sign up based on your personal situation. Their website also has information about how to pay premiums, cost-saving programs, understanding your Medicare rights and protections, and more.
