Make this year the year of new experiences!
Learn
Learning has never been easier with online classes available at our fingertips. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn a new language or understand the complex history of ancient times, now is your chance to get started! View free online class offerings at Coursera, edX, or University of Connecticut’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute programs. Or if you prefer learning in-person, visit your local library to find out about their offerings or check out what classes are being offered at your local senior center.
Get moving
Movement is an important part of our mental and physical health, but most of us need an extra push to take care of our bodies. Set a goal to get movement in at least three times a week this year! You can try a new exercise class at your local senior center, sign up for the fitness offerings at your local YMCA, or simply get your shoes on and start walking. For the best tips, view the National Institute on Aging’s Guide on Getting Started with Exercise.
Be creative
Using our minds creatively is great for our mental health and a fun way to meet friends with similar interests! View the Washington Post article that explains how Creativity may be the key to healthy aging. Local senior centers often host art classes, book clubs, or crafting events so you can get creative with friends. Or try a new creative activity from the comfort of your home, such as painting and drawing, writing and journaling, or knitting and crocheting.
Meet people
Making new friends is easy at the social events offered by your local senior center! For upcoming events where you can make a new connection in western Connecticut, view our Age Well Events Calendar.
Volunteer
Another great way to meet new people is by volunteering in your local community. Volunteering brings people together and lets us work towards a common goal. You can often volunteer through your local community organizations, at annual events in your town, or through local programs in your area. View the volunteer opportunities across Connecticut
On behalf Age Well CT, we wish you a happy and healthy new year!
