Medicare’s open enrollment period officially started on October 15th. From now to December 7th, all Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year. If you are already enrolled in a plan and do not want to make a change for 2019, then you can simply relax. However, if you need to make an adjustment or enroll in a plan, then you are encouraged to do so during this period. A few of the options for beneficiaries are to:
- Change from Original Medicare (Parts A & B) to Medicare Advantage (Part C)
- Change from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare.
- Switch from one Medicare Part D plan to another Medicare Part D plan.
- Switch from one Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage Plan.
To better prepare yourself for open enrollment, you can take a look at the information in the Health Insurance & Benefits section of our Senior Resources page.
In the coming weeks, a few of our senior centers will be holding discussions on Medicare’s open enrollment period. Also, you are always welcome to contact our senior centers directly if you want to learn more about Medicare’s coverage options or if you need help with choosing a plan that best fits your needs.
Also, CHOICES is offering assistance with Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plan comparisons and enrollments. They are providing Medicare Update presentations and events that will help beneficiaries make informed decisions about their health insurance coverage options.
