The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have just finished mailing new Medicare cards to people who live in Connecticut. The new card should have been sent to you automatically and it will contain a new Medicare Number that is unique to you. If you have received your new Medicare card, destroy your old card and start using the new one right away. However, if you have not received your new Medicare card, then:
- Sign in to your MyMedicare.gov account and see when your card was mailed. If you don’t have a MyMedicare.gov account yet, visit MyMedicare.gov to create one. Once your new card has been mailed, you can sign in to see your new Medicare Number or print an official copy of your new card.
- Visit Medicare.gov/NewCard and check the map for the status of card mailings in CT
- Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) for further assistance. There may be something that needs to be corrected, such as updating your mailing address.
The new Medicare cards no longer contain your Social Security number and they were issued to help better protect your identity. CMS is committed to mailing new cards to all people with Medicare by April 2019. As they are completing their mailings, please be aware of scams related to the new Medicare cards. Remember that Medicare will never call you uninvited and ask you to give them personal or private information to get your new Medicare Number and card.
