During the month of May, we take some time to celebrate Older Americans and recognize the contributions that they make to our society as a whole. Older Americans Month is lead by the Administration for Community Living and their hope is that we take the month to think about how we can work together to support and value people over the age 65. For 2019, the theme for Older Americans Month is Connect, Create, Contribute. This theme encourages older adults and their communities to:
- Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
- Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
- Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
Communities that encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger! By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives.
One of the best ways to celebrate Older Americans Month and to keep with the 2019 theme of Connect, Create, Contribute is to get involved with your local senior center. From exercise classes and art programs to informative lectures, live music, holiday parties, and special trips, our senior centers offer a plethora of activities that are sure to keep you social, active, and engaged.
Everyone is welcome at our senior centers, so if you are interested in what is happening at the center in your area, check out our Events Calendar. Also, for more information on your senior center, visit our Senior Center Pages.
