In September, POLITICO released their new special report The Agenda: Aging in America. This series takes a comprehensive look into the challenges that elderly Americans face in our country as well as the innovative solutions that may help to deal with them. From healthcare costs and policy changes to caregiving and transportation, a range of issues that directly affect our elderly population are to be addressed in upcoming articles of this report. In fact, the first installment of Aging in America featured articles that discussed America’s aging federal workforce, the hospice system, and senior financial abuse.
However, one article that may be of special interest to our audience involved ridesharing startups being a potential solution to the senior-transport crisis. Companies like Uber and Lyft are beginning to partner with senior care facilities and hospital centers to help elderly adults get to doctor appointments. The article also discussed how ridesharing programs may be beneficial to those seniors who no longer drive and do not have access to public transportation in addition to the limitations that some seniors may have with using the Uber and Lyft apps. The Agenda: Aging in America will be publishing new articles in the coming months, so be sure to check back for more topics of interest.
